Refund FAQ

How do I refund a donation? -

  1. Log in to your The Giving Block client dashboard
  2. Navigate to the Transactions page 
    Transactions Menu
  3. Select any card donation made after 02.28.2023
    Search Transactions
  4. Scroll down Transaction Details popup and click 'Refund

  5. Verify the refund amount

  6. Enter a note for your own records (will be visible on your Transactions CSV Report)

Can the donor request a refund for any donation method? 

Yes; however, whether or not they are able to get a refund will depend on your organization's gift acceptance policy. Note that Crypto and Stock donations cannot typically be refunded. 


 Does the donor receive a notification when their refund has been processed?

Yes, donors will receive a prompt email notification as soon as their refund is processed and released. The email will contain all the necessary information about the refunded amount.


How long does it take for the refund to process?

The refunded amount will be processed within a span of 3-5 business days and will be reflected in the donor's bank statement.


Who has the ability to manage and process refunds?

Your dashboard client manager can perform refunds in the client dashboard.

How can I see the transaction report for refunds?

Clients can now conveniently access updated transaction status and offset transactions directly from their Dashboard. Additionally, these changes will be reflected in the CSV report available for download.


Will the donation still reflect in my dashboard total?

If a refund has been issued, it will be reflected accordingly, and the corresponding amount will no longer be displayed in your dashboard totals.


What types of donations can be refunded?

Any card donation made on or after 02.28.2023 can be refunded directly in your client dashboard. 

For card donations made before 02.28.2023, please contact support@thegivingblock.com with details of your request. 


Stock and crypto donations are not typically refunded but please contact our team if you have a unique situation that requires attention.


Is it possible to issue partial refunds?

Yes.


Can I process a refund to a different card?

Refunds can only be sent to the original payment card. Refunds issued to expired or canceled cards are handled by the donor's card issuer and generally returned to the replacement card.


Will the donor be notified that a refund has been issued?

If the donor had provided an email address at the time of the donation, they will receive a confirmation email with details of the refund.


Can I cancel a refund?

It is not possible to cancel a refund once initiated. 


Will the transaction fees be refunded?

Transaction fees cannot be refunded when a refund is issued, as the upfront transaction processing fees are determined and retained by the bank or payment network. If the donor had opted to cover fees for a donation, you may come to an agreement with them to refund the donation net amount.
