Nonprofit Client FAQs

I didn't get donations immediately after signing up. What am I doing wrong?

There are a few things to consider here:

  • Crypto is recognized as a property in the US, so for many donors, the donations are similar to stock. They tend to be higher in value (average $10,000) and less frequent. It will be different to your online digital campaigns in this way, which yields new individual donors but at a much lower ($25-$100 average).
  • Crypto fundraising requires consistent messaging. A crypto donor won't be able to give to you if they don't know that you accept crypto.
  • Crypto philanthropy is a long-term fundraising strategy. The keys to success are provided in your New Client Launch Webinar and should be followed. Low-lifts like getting active on Twitter using the provided templates, optimizing your donation page, and reaching out to your current donor network are fundamental to your success.

What is the relationship between our organization, The Giving Block, and Gemini Exchange?

The Giving Block partners with Gemini to convert cryptocurrency donations to cash. We provide a solution for nonprofits that removes the complexity of having to manage a crypto wallet yourself so that you can rely on crypto experts at The Giving Block and take the stress out of accepting crypto donations.

You can think of Gemini as the back-end processor, similarly to the way Stripe is the processor for Classy

Why are my Impact Index Funds (Formerly Cause Funds) distributions not showing up in my dashboard?

Impact Index Funds are a special initiative that are distributed outside of the dashboard at this time.

We will always be sure to send a client email to update you on when the next distributions is issued. If you are not receiving our client-only emails, please email support@thegivingblock.com to ensure you are enabled.

Why am I not receiving notifications of donations?

You must be set up with access to The Giving Block dashboard. Please fill out this form to gain access.

How do I add additional users to The Giving Block dashboard?

We add users on our end. Please send the first name, last name, and email address of any users you want added to support@thegivingblock.com

How do I check if I already have a log in?

Visit dashboard.tgbwidget.com and click 'I Forgot My Password' then enter your email address. If it says no user found, please send us an email so we can get you set up.

What are the Crypto Adoption Fund and Impact Index Funds?

Donors who visit The Giving Block have the option to make a charitable donation to the Crypto Adoption Fund or one of the fifteen Impact Index Funds (formerly known as Cause Funds). The funding received in the Crypto Adoption Fund is allocated equally to all of the eligible organizations. Funding received in the Impact Index Funds is paid out at the same time to all of the organizations participating in that specific Impact Index Fund.

How do I participate in the Impact Index Funds?

You automatically opt into Impact Index Funds (formerly Cause Funds) as a client of The Giving Block, based upon your selection during the New Client Form Process.

The only exception to this is 501(c)4 organizations and Political Action Committees (PACs) who are not eligible to receive these contributions.

I am not listed on the website under the Impact Index Funds category I selected. Am I still eligible?

Not to worry! As long as you have selected your Impact Index Fund you will receive distributions regardless if the website reflects this. This update is a manual process for our team, so is done so intermittently.

You are welcome to email us at support@thegivingblock.com if you still have concerns and want to confirm you are in a fund.

When will we receive donations from the Impact Index Funds and the Crypto Adoption Fund?

We aim to send Impact Index Funds (formerly Cause Funds) and Crypto Adoption Fund distributions out each month by the 15th of the month for the previous month. These are currently sent via check to the mailing address you provided during onboarding. You are eligible to receive these funds beginning in the month that you signed up, so long as it was before the 15th.

How should we account for this contribution from The Giving Block?

This contribution is a gift from a donor-advised fund through The Giving Block and sponsored by Renaissance Charitable. Please record this donation distribution as you would any other DAF gift at your organization. We are working on having this reflected in the dashboard so you will have a central source for all crypto donations.

Are non-US charities eligible for the Crypto Adoption Fund and Impact Index Funds?

When we launched the fund we were not able to provide these distributions to international clients, however our team has been working on a solution and as of March 2022, all international clients will be added and eligible.

What can I update on my TGB donation page?

You can update the Featured Image, Mission Statement, Why Donate Crypto section, Impact Statement, Impact Banner and add a video. All other sections are non-customizable. If you want to make changes to these sections, please email the full exact text to support@thegivingblock.com and we will make the changes. Please note changes can take 24-48 hours to take place.

How do I know if my Organization's Donation Page is optimized?

Your organization should have a crypto donation landing page all its own with the donation form embedded on it. Please refer to the SEO Donation Page Optimization. Be sure you list out the cryptocurrencies accepted by the donation form to boost hits from google.

When are donations transferred to our bank account?

Donation transfers are initiated weekly on Fridays provided your total donation amount meets the minimum threshold of $50.00 USD. Transfers can take up to 3-5 days depending on your bank.

Please note: for International clients, the minimum threshold is $500.00 USD.

Why didn't the donations in my dashboard transfer automatically?

You might be one of our few clients set up with a standalone account. This means you will have to log in to Gemini yourself to initiate the transfer of the funds. Email support@thegivingblock.com if you get stuck and need instructions to do so.

Fair Market Value of Donation

You can look up the FMV of any crypto donation on any given day using a resource like this one and looking up the exact date and type of cryptocurrency.

Why did my donor have to pay to donate Ethereum?

ETH gas fees are variable and apply to any donor sending ETH or tokens on the Ethereum network. In some cases, wallets or exchanges might cover some or all of these fees, but this is something ETH holders need to address themselves. The Giving Block has no control over these gas fees, and our nonprofits will not incur any additional fees because of it.
