How Stock Donations Work
Stock Donation Process Overview:
- Direct the donor to visit your donation form and select the 'Stock' button.
- The donor will enter the Stock ticker, quantity of shares, their contact info, and broker information.
- If their broker is not yet listed as a supported broker, they can select 'other' and enter their brokerage account number. The donor can enter an advisor contact if they have one. Having a direct contact can speed up the process.
- The donor will provide a virtual signature to complete the pledge.
- Donors will receive a confirmation of pledge via email. See example below.
- Your organization will receive a notification that the donation has been pledged
- The TGB Operations team will send the completed forms to the broker. No further action is needed from the donor.
- Once the broker receives the request forms, they will initiate the transfer process. This can take 5-10 business days under normal circumstances.
- Once the shares have been received and liquidated by Renaissance Charitable, TGB will initiate a grant to your organization with the funds from this Stock donation. You'll receive the funds via check in the mail, and the Stock gift will appear in your nonprofit dashboard.

What does it look like in the donation form?
Donors can toggle between donation methods within your organization's donation form. If a user chooses the Stock option, they will then be asked to input the stock amount, broker information and personal information.

How do I enable or disable stock acceptance?
To enable or disable stock acceptance on your donation form, please send an email to our support team at support@thegivingblock.com.
When will the stock donation appear in the dashboard?
The stock donation will appear in your dashboard once completed, meaning the shares have arrived at Renaissance Charitable and have been liquidated.
When will the donated funds be transferred to my bank account?
After the shares are liquidated, the net proceeds from the donation are sent to you as a grant from Renaissance Charitable. By default, this grant is mailed to you. If you'd like the funds to be sent to you via ACH transfer, please complete the instructions in this article in advance.
What notifications will my organization receive for a stock donation?
When your organization receives a new stock donation pledge, our team quickly confirms its validity and initiates the pledge notification email to be sent to your organization.
Once the donation is completed, you will receive an additional notification email informing you of the completed donation. At this point our dashboard will also show the details of the donation on the Transactions tab and on the exportable Transaction CSV Report.
What notifications and tax receipts do donors receive?
The Giving Block handles all notifications and receipts to stock donors throughout the donation process. The donor will receive notification that their donation pledge has been successfully submitted. The donor also receives a contribution letter after their donation has been completed, which includes the gift value for tax purposes.
Is there assistance available for stock donors who are uncomfortable using the donation form?
Donating through the donation form is entirely secure. Please assure donors that their information is handled with the utmost care and feel free to share our security statement.
